Sesungguhnya Engkau Maha Kuasa atas tiap-tiap sesuatu.

(QS Ali Imran 26-27)

Sesungguhnya Allah Dialah Maha Pemberi rezeki
Yang Mempunyai Kekuatan lagi Sangat Kokoh.

(QS Adzariyat : 58)

By now, most of you are aware of the path we are taking in Q4 to reduce costs in ways that keep our customers’ interests front and center and minimize long-term impacts to our employees.

In addition to reprioritizing projects and capital spending, Michael outlined earlier this week various options to reduce payroll costs, such as a short-term hold on job requisitions/new job offers and a company-wide effort to reduce the non-Dell workforce (contractors, temporary agents and all other categories of non-Dell employees).

He also underscored our efforts to use voluntary cost-reduction options whenever possible so that fewer involuntary actions will be necessary.

Today, we are also opening a new Web site that provides each of you with a chance to review the Voluntary Unpaid Time Off program and Voluntary Separation program and determine if you are eligible and if one of these choices is right for you.

The site details what areas of the business/countries are eligible for these programs and offers an online application to request participation in one of these programs.

To be clear, these requests are subject to manager/VP approval and the online application will close on Nov. 14. There are no exceptions. If you think you may want to participate in one of these programs, please speak with your manager as soon as possible and then complete the form.

We recognize these are difficult decisions and that these options won’t be right for everyone. That’s why we’ve provided you with as much choice as possible. At the same time, we hope everyone recognizes that the Voluntary Unpaid Time Off option, in particular, has the potential to reduce costs and reduce the requirement for additional involuntary actions. I encourage you to give it careful consideration and explore it with your manager.

Thank you for your dedication to Dell and consideration of these voluntary programs.

Dell freezes 4Q hiring, suggests unpaid time off

Dell Inc. has asked employees to consider taking unpaid vacation days or severance packages to help the PC maker cut costs.

In a memo posted to a company blog, Chief Executive Michael Dell also announced a hiring freeze and said the company would use fewer contract workers.

Jess Blackburn, a Dell spokesman, said Tuesday that the new moves are intended to help Dell reach its goal of cutting $3 billion in annual expenses over the next few years. Corporate spending on information technology is softening, as is consumer spending on PCs in developed countries.

"It's no secret, we're all living in times of economic uncertainty," Blackburn said. "What Michael laid out yesterday is the first opportunity for employees to directly contribute to this effort."

Michael Dell's plan gives employees the opportunity to take up to five days off without pay during the company's fiscal fourth quarter, which ends Jan. 30. Some key customer support workers won't be eligible, Blackburn said. The spokesman could not say whether the CEO was considering unpaid time.

Dell is also offering severance packages for people who leave the company voluntarily. Blackburn would not give any additional details.

The new moves were first reported by the Austin American-Statesman.

The Round Rock, Texas-based PC maker has already cut 10 percent of its global work force since 2007. Blackburn declined to say whether Dell will slash additional jobs if the plan doesn't lower expenses enough.

Dell had about 88,000 employees at the end of its last fiscal year.

Shares of Dell gained 32 cents, or 2.5 percent, to close at $12.93
